Wiltshire Council has officially launched the Wiltshire Community Lottery, with tickets now on sale ahead of the first draw on 6 June.
More than 90 local good causes have already signed up to take part in the weekly online lottery, which is designed to provide unrestricted funding for community organisations across the county.
Tickets cost £1 each, with players able to choose which local cause they want to support. Fifty pence from every ticket sold will go directly to the selected organisation, while additional funding will support wider community projects through area boards.
Mel Jacob said many charities and community groups were facing growing financial pressures and the lottery would provide another important source of support.
The council says the scheme was developed following discussions with the voluntary and community sector, where rising costs and funding shortages were highlighted as major concerns.
The lottery is being operated in partnership with Gatherwell, which manages similar community lottery schemes across more than 150 council areas nationwide.
