Salisbury travel to Essex on Saturday for their Vanarama National League South tie with Hornchurch, the second meeting between the two sides this season.
The two sides first met this season in October, when the spoils were shared at the Ray Mac. Salisbury had led twice, first through Josh Hedges and then late on, Craig Fasanmade looked like he had won the game for Salisbury after George Saunders had equalised for the visitors. However, deep into injury time, Scott Kashlet grabbed a late equaliser with 6 minutes of added time played.
Since then, both sides have been working hard to establish themselves in the league, having both been promoted into Step 2 at the end of last season, and the sides are separated by one place and one point going into this weekend’s fixture.
Salisbury come into the game six unbeaten in the league with two wins along with four draws, whereas the hosts are six games without a win and have picked up two points in those fixtures.
In their last game, Hornchurch lost at home to Dorking, a single goal in the first half from Matthew Briggs was enough to take all three points.
Despite the result, Daryl McMahon thought his side was ‘outstanding’ and was, for 80 minutes, the dominant side.
Like Salisbury, Hornchurch had their midweek fixture postponed. They had been due to travel to Farnborough, but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
In Salisbury’s last game, they were held to a 1-1 draw with 10-man St Albans. A point that helped keep the teams below them at arm’s length.
Supporters who are not able to make the trip to watch the game can listen to full match commentary on Salisbury Radio Sport with Ian Pearson and Andy Munns on commentary duties.
