Single Goal Seals Salisbury Bank-Holiday Win

Salisbury bounced back from their heartbreak on Saturday with a strong victory at the Ray Mac against Billericay Town courtesy of a Nathan Odokonyero winner.

It was a fast and lively start for the Whites in the opening quarter of an hour, as Joe Wright pulled off a crucial double save to deny a diving header from Luke Russe and a follow-up from Robbie Gallagher.

However, it didn't take long for Will Henry to join the action, as the visitors had a chance to open the scoring from close range, but the header was saved by the Salisbury number one.

After an even back-and-forth opening 45 minutes, both sides went into the interval with a lot of work to do to break each other down.

Brian Dutton's men came out the better side, however, and that was proven in the 58th minute when forward Nathan Odokonyero scored the opener at the near post, pouncing on the Billericay centre-half after he tried to snuff out Morgan's low cross.

The momentum shifted in the visitors' favour near the end of the second half, as one chance made it into Will Henry's net, but it was deemed offside quickly.

The Whites managed to close out the game in decisive fashion, which will be music to Salisbury fans' ears, after two heartbreaking last-minute defeats in their previous two outings.

The game followed Saturday's frustration as Brian Dutton's side conceded in the third minute of added time to lose 2-1 away at Maidstone United.

Up next for Salisbury is a trip to Essex to face Chelmsford City on Saturday, 5th September. There will be full live commentary on Salisbury Radio Sport from 2:50 pm with Ian Pearson and Andy Munns.
