Could You Be Salisbury's Next Woman Changemaker?

A local organisation with worldwide reach that has spent decades championing the rights of women and girls is looking for a new generation of women who want to make a difference.

Salisbury Soroptimists is inviting women of all ages to its Coffee, Cake and Conversation afternoon taking place at the Quaker Meeting House, Wilton Road, Salisbury on Saturday 19 September from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.

The free event is designed for women who are curious about getting involved in their community, meeting like-minded people and using their skills, experience and enthusiasm to help improve the lives of women and girls locally and across the world.

From tackling domestic abuse and supporting vulnerable women in Salisbury to campaigning for gender equality and human rights internationally, Soroptimists work together to turn ideas into action.

The club hopes to attract more women who are balancing careers, families, and busy lives by showing that volunteering doesn't have to require a huge commitment.

Instead of expecting members to attend every meeting or event, Salisbury Soroptimists work on a project basis, allowing members to choose the causes that inspire them and contribute when they can.

Kathryn Furnell, a working member of Salisbury Soroptimists, said, "All women are incredibly busy, but many still want to give something back. One of the biggest myths about joining an organisation like ours is that it takes over your life. It really doesn't. I fit my Soroptimist activities around work, evenings and weekends, and get involved in the projects that resonate most with me."

She added, "Whether your passion is making the world a better place for women and girls, fundraising, advocacy or organising community events, there's a place for you. Every member brings different skills and ideas, and together we achieve far more than any of us could alone."

Guests will hear about the club's work in Salisbury, including projects supporting women and girls, community partnerships and international campaigns, while enjoying coffee, cake and informal conversation with current members.

There is no pressure to join on the day - just an opportunity to find out what Soroptimists do, ask questions and discover whether becoming part of a global organisation of women making a difference is right for you.
