The outgoing Lady Captain of Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club, Debbie Lewin, handed a cheque for £4273 to Rachel Fear of Beyond Dementia at the Ladies’ Section AGM
Beyond Dementia is a local charity supporting those living with dementia and their families in Wiltshire. The money was raised throughout the year through charity days and table sales.
Rachel Fear thanked all the ladies involved in raising the funds and assured them that the donation would make a big difference in the county. Debbie explained that she had chosen the charity because her father had lived with dementia and her mother now volunteers at the Dementia Day Centre on Scott’s Lane, run by Beyond Dementia.
During the afternoon meeting, 30 cups were presented to the prize winners of this year’s competitions. Notably, the Scratch Club Champion was Alison Charles, and the winner of the Sarum Cup was Nicky Blanchard. Alison Charles was also named Golfer of the Year. Scratch Golfer of the Year was Alison Carter andMost Improved Player was Phoebe Long.

Debbie Lewin handed over the Captaincy to Julie Savage, who introduced her Vice Captain, Mary Harris.
Julie is going to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and focus her year on making the golf club as environmentally aware and sustainable as possible, in collaboration with the Club’s Course Committee and greenkeepers.
The traditional ‘putt in’ by the outgoing Lady Captain, followed by the first ' drive out’ from the new Lady Captain, was held a few days later.
Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club welcomes enquiries from prospective members; however, there is currently a waiting list.
