A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Salisbury.
Officers were called to an address in Firsdown at approximately 4.45pm yesterday (5th May 2026) following a report that a woman in her 50s had been seriously assaulted by a man who was known to her. She was taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to be serious but not life threatening.
The man had left the scene and extensive searches were carried out by officers assisted by the police helicopter throughout the course of the evening and at approximately 10.40pm, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon.
He has been taken to Melksham custody for questioning.
DI Eirin Martin said, “We appreciate the significant concern this incident caused, with a heightened police presence across the city whilst searches of an address were carried out, as well as searches to locate the man. Please be reassured that this was an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public and we have arrested a man in connection with it.
“Thank you to the Salisbury community for their patience whilst we carried out our enquiries. There will be a continued police presence in the areas of Spire View and Bishopdown whilst we continue with our enquiries.”
