Wiltshire Gambling Harms Awareness Week will launch this October with a series of activities focused on increasing the understanding of support available and helping people recognise when gambling may be impacting an individual or family.
From 5 to 9 October, Wiltshire Council will work with Ara Recovery for All, Ygam and the South West Gambling Service to deliver a varied programme of free online training sessions, lived experience webinars and awareness-raising activities. The programme aims to empower people to recognise the warning signs and give them the tools to provide practical advice on how to support those affected by gambling.
Those joining the activities during the awareness week will hear lived experience accounts from people affected by gambling harms, as well as training focused on young people and information about NHS treatment services. An information stall will also be available at County Hall in Trowbridge throughout the week for people to drop by and pick up useful information.
Kate Blackburn, Director of Public Health, Wiltshire Council said: "Wiltshire Gambling Harms Awareness Week is an important opportunity to increase understanding of gambling-related harms and highlight the support that is available for individuals, families and communities who may be affected.
"Gambling harm can impact many aspects of a person's life, including their mental health, relationships, finances and overall wellbeing. By raising awareness, reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations, we can help people recognise the signs of harm earlier and to access support when they need it.
By working alongside our partners, we are providing free opportunities for residents, community groups and professionals to increase their understanding of gambling harms and learn how to support those who may be affected. We want people to know that help is available and that they are not alone."
