Salisbury-born musician leads live rock fundraiser for Wiltshire Creative Christmas Appeal  

A Salisbury-born musician is returning to his roots for a fundraising gig at Salisbury Arts Centre, launching Wiltshire Creative’s 2026 Christmas Appeal.

Guitarist Jamie Welfare grew up in Salisbury and spent his formative years musically in the area. Now he’s a member of Britpop band False Futures, who’ll be bringing their original sound from the London scene down the A303 to Salisbury. 

All profits from the gig will go to the Christmas Appeal, Be A Star For Giving. As gig sponsors, pet food brand Lily’s Kitchen will match ticket sales as a donation.

Now in its fourth year, Wiltshire Creative’s Christmas Appeal helps make sure that local children, young people and families who might otherwise miss out can experience the magic of pantomime at Salisbury Playhouse.

Last year, supporters helped Wiltshire Creative gift 1,055 tickets to young people and families in Salisbury, giving them the chance to make happy memories together at Christmas. 

Wiltshire Creative also provide subsidised tickets for school children, helping more young people discover the joy of live theatre. This year, Wiltshire Creative aiming to raise £40,000 so that even more people facing financial hardship, caring responsibilities or isolation can have the chance to share a special Christmas experience at the theatre. 

Jamie Welfare said: “My passion for music, my hometown and my work have all come together to make this show happen.

"I moved to London 4 years ago to find a band and immediately met the group I’ve been in ever since, False Futures. We’ve played all over the UK and are releasing a debut EP in November. 

"I grew up between Andover and Salisbury and my first ever live gig was watching the Stranglers at the Playhouse in 2015. Salisbury punches above its weight for its contribution to culture and through the venues it runs in town. Wiltshire Creative play a massive role showcasing so many talented people in the city.

"My day job is with the pet food brand Lily’s Kitchen. As part of this I run the fundraising/giving back team, which means that they have played a large role in organising the gig. All ticket sales proceeds will be matched by the company and donated to Wiltshire Creative.

"My first experience watching the Stranglers had a massive impact on me so it feels like a massive privilege to fundraise for a cause that could have the same effect on 1,000+ children. Wiltshire Creative would love to top the donations made last year so if you’d like to contribute, why not come along to the Salisbury Arts Centre, October 9th for a night of great music. We will be joined by the very talented band scuss from Salisbury.”

False Future’s original music crosses genres of Britpop, Indie Rock and Shoegaze, with Earmilk Magazine describing their sound as ‘Quintessentially English yet universally resonant’. Their live set will appeal to fans of Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead & Blur. 

The False Futures: Live Rock Fundraiser will take place at Salisbury Arts Centre on Friday 9 October, 7:30 pm. Tickets range from £8.50 to £12.50.
