The newly upgraded gym at Tidworth Leisure Centre is now available for customers to use, following refurbishments carried out by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The improvements have transformed the fitness offer at the centre, providing members with a wide range of new equipment to support all levels of fitness and training.
The upgrade includes:
- A wide range of new cardio equipment for cycling, rowing and full-body workouts
- New stair-climbing and seated exercise bikes
- High-intensity training bikes
- A full range of new strength and resistance machines
- New cable and weight-training stations for a variety of strength exercises
- An expanded free weights area with dumbbells and barbells
As a dual-use facility shared by the local community and military personnel, the investment reflects the ongoing partnership between Wiltshire Council and the MoD to provide high-quality leisure facilities in Tidworth.
Cllr Mel Jacob, Wiltshire Council's Cabinet Member for Communities, Engagement and Corporate Services, said: "We're delighted that these improvements are now complete and that customers can enjoy a modern, high-quality gym experience at Tidworth Leisure Centre.
"The new equipment provides greater choice and flexibility for people of all fitness levels, whether they are looking to improve their health and wellbeing, train regularly or try something new.
"These upgraded facilities will benefit both the local community and military personnel who use the centre, helping more people to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
"I'd like to thank the MoD for funding these improvements and for its continued partnership in supporting this important dual-use facility."
Commander of Tidworth Garrison, Lt Col Ru Whitelegge, said: “How the Army and Wiltshire Council share the Tidworth Leisure Centre is unique and brilliant. Sharing responsibilities, we both get more than we would doing this alone. This upgrade is a great example, with the whole centre due to go through a considerable refurbishment in the next 2 years as a part of the MoD’s contract with Aspire Defence Limited. Meanwhile the centre is used daily by the Garrison’s 12,000 Service People, and many members of the civic community.”
Membership offers are available now to encourage people to come and try out the new facilities. Customers who start a new 12-month direct debit membership for Life Zone, Fitness Zone or Swim Zone will pay no administration fee and nothing for the remainder of July, with their first payment due on 5 August.
For those looking for greater flexibility, customers can take out a flexi direct debit membership and pay no administration fee, saving £25. The offer is available on Life Zone, Fitness Zone, Swim Zone, Young Adult Zone and Junior Zone memberships.
Both membership offers are available to new members who sign up by 28 July.
