Salisbury Radio are delighted to announce the return of Song for Christmas for its fifth edition, our annual festive singing competition for primary-aged children across the area.
This year, Salisbury Radio's Andy Munns plans to visit 24 local primary, infant and junior schools across Salisbury, South Wiltshire and West Hampshire to record each school's Song for Christmas.
Each song will be presented to our panel of judges, who will listen and score it without knowing which school performed it.
Last year's winners, St Nicholas Primary School in Porton, wowed the judges with their version of That First Christmas Day, which was announced as our champions on Christmas Day by Ian Burrage on Salisbury Radio.
Each day, a different school's song is played on Salisbury Radio, starting on Tuesday, 1st December, during Ian Burrage's Breakfast Club and repeated later in the day, with the final song being played on Christmas Eve.
For the competition, Salisbury Radio visits each participating school to record that school's 'Song for Christmas'. Salisbury's local radio station then plays one song a day in December, leading up to Christmas.
Once again, Salisbury Radio is also organising two carol concerts for the local schools to perform in. These will take place at Sarum Academy in early December in the large performance hall at the secondary school on Bemerton Heath.
Salisbury Radio's Andy Munns said, "I say this every year, but it is honestly a privilege to travel to all the amazing local schools and to record their Song for Christmas entries.
"Before December starts, I am full to the brim of Christmas joy and love all the time and effort schools put into preparing their songs.
"We can't do this without the support of teachers and staff at each of the schools, with the support from Sarum Academy and MLP for providing the performance hall.
"I certainly couldn't do this without the support of Helen Rawson, who is our musical director for the concerts and brings over 100 children together to perform and sound amazing each night.
"I can't wait to hear this year's songs and get out and about in Salisbury, South Wiltshire and West Hampshire in a couple of months' time."
