Salisbury City Council is inviting expressions of interest from organisations and community groups regarding the future use of the chapel within the grounds of Devizes Road Cemetery.
The chapel has stood vacant for some time, and the Council is seeking to understand whether there is local interest in establishing a sustainable and beneficial future for the building.
At present, the chapel is a consecrated space; however, should a suitable and viable proposal be received, the Council would be open to exploring whether de-consecration may be possible to enable alternative uses.
Organisations and community groups are encouraged to submit details of their group along with an outline of their proposed use for the building. The Council is particularly interested in proposals that demonstrate community benefit, sustainability, and sensitivity to the building’s character.
Expressions of interest should be submitted by 31 August 2026 by email to facilities@salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk.
Following the consultation period, all submissions will be reviewed as part of the Council’s decision-making process, with further updates to be provided in due course.
Cllr Sam Foster, Chair of the Commercial Services Committee, said, “Ensuring the chapel continues to be part of and benefit the community is important. Therefore, we welcome all ideas for the chapel’s future that can demonstrate those long-term benefits for both the building and the wider community. If you have a proposal, please get in touch.”
