For the first time, Salisbury Cathedral is holding an Art Late event, showcasing the current contemporary art exhibition Joyful Noise, with live music, local DJs, crafting activities and a bar open throughout the evening.
On Friday, 31 July, from 7pm, the evening will open with a DJ set from local duo Rock the Boat, bringing soulful, uplifting grooves from across the globe into the spectacular Cathedral.
There will be a special sound and spoken-word performance from artists Tim Etchells, whose light installation ‘Songs’ is currently on display in the exhibition. He will be joined by renowned composer and conductor Jack Sheen, who collaborates with visual artists and musicians.
The evening will also include DJ Kem Kem presenting a live set that responds to the themes of the exhibition, tracing a sonic journey across the Black Atlantic – from the drum traditions of Central and West Africa to jazz and Caribbean folk reimagined.

Visitors will be able to wander among the contemporary art in the Cathedral or learn more about the exhibition on spotlight tours, led by the Cathedral’s Visual Arts Curator, Mollie Barnes. A bar, offering a range of drinks and refreshments, will be open throughout the evening.
Alongside performances and tours, there will be opportunities for hands-on creative activity: visitors can build their own version of Yuri Suzuki’s playful and colourful art installation UTOOTO, try screen printing, or sit and sketch the Cathedral’s soaring architecture.
Mollie Barnes, the Cathedral’s Visual Arts Curator, said, “We are excited to be holding our first Art Late, marking a new chapter in how visitors can experience the Cathedral after hours.
"The evening will bring together exceptional performers, artists, hands-on crafting and music, celebrating the current exhibition Joyful Noise. It’s going to be cool – in all senses of the word!”
Tickets for Art Late on Friday 31 July from 7pm can be booked in advance for £5 via the Cathedral website or on the night for £7.50.
