Wessex Water Thanks Customers Following Hosepipe Ban

Wessex Water give thanks to all their water supply customers following the introduction of their first hosepipe ban in 50 years in August.

This summer was one of the driest summers ever recorded in the South West and the demand for water reached a record high. However, since the hosepipe ban was introduced, the amount of water used each day across the region has significantly reduced.

Wessex Water recognise and appreciate the efforts made to save water, noting that residents are safeguarding the environment and ensuring water is available for everyone.

Since the dry weather continued throughout August, their reservoir and groundwater levels are below average for this time of year. Wessex Water encourage their customers to continue saving water where they can while they continue to monitor the supply.

The ban will remain in place until resources have stabilised.

Wessex Water said:

"Thanks to all our water supply customers for your support following the introduction of our first hosepipe ban in 50 years in August.

The amount of water being used each day across our region has reduced significantly since the restrictions came into effect, which is a positive step in the right direction following record levels of demand for 48 consecutive days.

After one of the driest summers ever recorded in the South West, your efforts are helping to protect water supplies, safeguard the environment and ensure enough water is available for essential use by customers and businesses.

We continued to see more warm, dry weather and limited rainfall throughout August. As a result, our reservoir and groundwater levels are below average for this time of year.

Please keep up the good work and continue saving water where you can. We are closely monitoring the supply network alongside reservoir, groundwater levels and river flows, and we’re still increasing our efforts to find and fix leaks. The ban will need to remain in place until demand and resources have stabilised."
