The Whites grab three valuable points with home win

Salisbury collected a valuable three points against Hampton and Richmond on Saturday afternoon, thanks to goals from Callum Watts and Noah Coppin.

Hampton & Richmond threatened late on after Alfie Williams pulled one back for the visitors, but Brian Dutton’s side defended well to secure the victory.

Callum Watts opened the scoring in the first minute of the game. Some relentless pressing led to Brown having possession inside the Beavers’ box. Watts was on hand to fire past Merrick and give the Wiltshire side an early advantage.

The Whites continued their aggressive press, causing the visitors an early problem when they tried to build out from the back.

Salisbury controlled the remainder of the first half, dictating the tempo on and off the ball and led at the break.

The Beavers started the second period the better. Ragguette’s headed clearance was enough to take the ball out of the path of the onrushing Siziba at the back post, after a threatening ball was crossed into the area.

In the 66^th minute, a superb last-ditched clearance off the goal line from Sam German denied Hampton & Richmond an equaliser.

Four minutes later (70^th), Noah Coppin made the visitors pay. The forward fired a cracking half volley into the back of Merrick’s net from just inside the box. The chance was crafted via a delicate Watts’ chip to set the forward up.

In the 85^th, the visitors pulled one back. Alfie Williams stooped down low to turn home after a cross was whipped in from out wide.

The Whites held on and dealt with all the late pressure applied by the visitors to secure a massive three points in their survival bid.

Salisbury will travel to Truro City on Saturday, March 22nd, for their Non-League Day fixture. The match kicks off at 3 p.m.
