The sun was shining, and spirits were high as the community came together for the inaugural 'Big Try' event in support of Salisbury Hospice Charity.
On Saturday, 14th March, walkers, rugby fans, families and volunteers gathered for a day full of community, conversation and camaraderie. Participants set off from Salisbury City Hall for an 8-mile walk, enjoying the sunshine while taking part to support their local hospice and its vital services.
The route began along the scenic Avon Valley Footpath toward Old Sarum, where participants completed a lap around the historic site before reaching the Midway “Pasty Pit-stop” at Salisbury Rugby Club. Here, everyone had the chance to recharge, enjoy a bite to eat and continue the journey with renewed energy.
From there, walkers continued to Castle Hill Country Park, then on to Salisbury City Centre via Victoria Park, before finishing back at the City Hall. Upon their finish, supporters gathered at the hall to watch the day’s opening Six Nations match and to celebrate the event’s success.
Natalie Pester, Event and Engagement Executive at Salisbury Hospice Charity, said: “Seeing people come together for the very first Big Try event has been fantastic. The sun was shining, energy was high, and it was wonderful to watch people connecting and sharing stories in support of the hospice. Events like this show just how strong our community is. We are beyond grateful to all who participated.”
The Big Try has raised over £13.5k, which will directly support Salisbury Hospice in providing compassionate, free-of-charge care to patients and their families living with life-limiting illness across the local area.
The charity extended a heartfelt thank you to the incredible team of volunteers who made the event possible. Special appreciation goes to the teams at Salisbury City Hall and Salisbury Rugby Club, as well as Tesco Extra Salisbury, Reeve the Baker, and Wessex Event
