Salisbury City Council opens applications for Community Infrastructure Levy funding

Do you have an idea that could improve your local area? Salisbury City Council is inviting community groups, organisations, and other eligible applicants to apply for funding.

From community buildings and green spaces to accessible paths and cycle routes, this funding can help turn collective community aspirations into real projects that benefit Salisbury residents and respond to growth challenges.

The funding comes from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which is collected from new housing developments across the city and reinvested into projects that benefit local communities. It can be used for the provision, improvement, replacement, operation or maintenance of infrastructure, or other measures that support your area’s development.

The City Council wants to hear from residents and organisations with ideas that could make a real difference to their community and welcomes applications for projects that demonstrate a clear link to supporting the development of Salisbury, mitigating the impacts of growth, or addressing increased demand arising from new housing and development.

Funding could support projects such as:

Community facilities and buildings
Parks and open spaces
Recreation and sports facilities
Walking and cycling improvements
Accessibility improvements
Highway and road safety schemes
Environmental and biodiversity projects
Public realm enhancements
Heritage and cultural infrastructure

To ensure applications are considered consistently and transparently, the Council operates a three-stage application process:

Gateway / Expression of Interest
Full Application and Assessment
Decision-Making

Applicants are encouraged to discuss potential projects with Council officers before submitting an application.

Cllr Victoria Charleston, Chair of the Communities Committee, said, “The money is there to support residents and communities to improve Salisbury. We want your help to spend this money on projects that are really important to you.

“If you have a good idea that you think would make things better for the people in your area – whether it’s new water fountains, a playpark, or perhaps community centre improvements – come and speak to us.”
