East is East is currently showing at Salisbury Playhouse. We sent Debbie from our team to see it.
Salford, 1971. The Khan family are living above a chip shop and on the fault line between two cultures.
George Khan is determined to raise the family his Pakistani way. His English wife, Ella, just wants to keep the peace.
Their seven children? They’re busy discovering disco, denim, and defiance.

Debbie found it a really enjoyable performance of East Is East. It was funny in places, with some great acting and an excellent re-enactment of the original film.
The set was really good, and the scene changes were cleverly done and entertaining in their own right, helping to keep the production flowing.
It was a full house, and the audience seemed to thoroughly enjoy the performance. It was a great evening of entertainment!

When George begins arranging marriages for his sons, rebellion erupts, and loyalties are tested. What follows is a hilarious and deeply moving battle between tradition and change.
Ayub Khan-Din’s modern classic blends razor-sharp comedy with moments of shocking honesty. East Is East is a story about identity, generational conflict, and the messy, unbreakable bonds of family.
East is East is playing at Salisbury Playhouse until Saturday 14th November. Book your tickets here: https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/east-is-east
