A wide-ranging operation to tackle crime and disorder associated with the nighttime economy was launched on Saturday (2nd November).
Operation Serent saw local Neighbourhood Policing Teams working alongside Special Constables, Police Licensing Officers, and Security Industry Authority Enforcement to carry out a range of preventative measures across Wiltshire.
Representatives from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner also participated, with additional support provided by government-funded ASB Hot Spot Wardens in designated areas.
Licensing checks were carried out in several towns, including Amesbury, Calne, Chippenham, Corsham, Devizes, Melksham, Salisbury, Trowbridge, and Westbury.
The teams also visited licensed premises to engage with staff, ensure compliance with licensing conditions, and encourage participation in safety initiatives like the PCC’s Safer Nights Charter and Ask for Angela.
During the operation, officers also responded to night-time incidents, resulting in a conditional caution for drunk and disorderly behaviour in Trowbridge and a court charge for being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle in Salisbury.
Op Serent supports the Chief Constable’s priorities of creating safer public spaces and reducing violence, ensuring communities can safely enjoy nights out.
Police say this will be a regular, monthly operation to help keep communities safe.
