Council invests in third Bobcat machine to repair more roads across the county

Wiltshire Council has added a third Bobcat machine to fix more potholes and repair more roads across the county, further strengthening its commitment to improving road infrastructure.

Bobcats can remove large areas of damaged road surface in just minutes, which enables the teams on site to complete the repairs, then move on to the next site and job while the Bobcat moves on to the next site. This helps to keep disruption to a minimum and also enables the teams to repair more roads.

Using a Bobcat is significantly faster and less labour-intensive than traditional road surface removal methods. It can cover larger areas and reduce the need for manual tools, which helps to protect the teams that work on site, as the Bobcat does the heavy lifting. The machines are particularly effective for delivering high-quality, permanent repairs to larger sections of road, rather than just patching individual potholes.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Since April, our Bobcat fleet has repaired more than five miles of road across 464 sites, delivering high-quality, permanent repairs to large sections of road at a time.

“With the addition of this third machine, we’re now able to expand our reach and make an even greater impact. The Bobcats have repaired roads in 128 parishes this year, across all of Wiltshire’s 18 Area Boards, helping to keep the county moving and making our roads safer for everyone.

“I encourage residents to continue reporting potholes and road issues to us using the MyWilts app or website and the reports will be assessed by our teams.”
