Blue Boar to be Restored to its Original Design

Jake Ludlow, from Ludlow Construction and Ludlow Properties, has always held a real passion for the historic buildings of Salisbury and the importance of preserving their character for future generations. So, when the opportunity to purchase Blue Boar arose, he couldn’t let it pass him by.

At Ludlow Construction, they all share the same passion for restoring period properties. The aim is not simply to renovate historic buildings, but to understand their past and carefully reinstate the architectural features that make them such an important part of Salisbury’s heritage.

Having looked through the archives, they were able to discover the original façade of Blue Boar and have made it their mission to restore this to its original design. This includes reinstating the arches, creating a frontage that is more in keeping with its historic neighbours and the character of Blue Boar Row.

The project consists of two phases. Once complete, Phase One will offer large retail premises on the ground floor, alongside two large apartments on the first and second floors, featuring high ceilings, original period features and a high quality workmanship from Ludlow Construction.

Phase Two will see the creation of another apartment within the 18th-century coffee house to the rear, alongside the redevelopment of a three-storey structure into two-bedroom homes - one of which will feature a contemporary zinc extension, carefully contrasting with the historic fabric of the building.

Jake Ludlow from Ludlow Construction says:

"This project is about more than creating new homes and commercial space. It is about giving a historic building a new chapter, while respecting and celebrating the architecture and story that came before it"

Work begins this week as Blue Boar is brought back to life, taking its place once again within the historic streetscape of Salisbury.
