On 8 September Mr Chris and Mrs Elieen Kirkup will celebrate 75 years of marriage having lived a life full of love, service, adventure, and community spirit.
Their story began when they met through Mr Kirkup's best friend. For him, it was love at first sight. When he asked Mrs Kirkup's father for permission to marry her, he was told that he would need to become a Corporal in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) and she would need to qualify as a nurse before he would give his blessing.
Shortly afterwards, Mr Kirkup was posted to Egypt for three years. He returned home just three days before their wedding, and the happy couple were finally married on 8 September 1951.
Mrs Kirkup trained and worked as a nurse at Addenbrooke's Hospital, while Mr Kirkup served in the RAMC before later working at Porton after the family settled in Salisbury in 1976.
Together they raised four children and are now proud grandparents to five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Over the years they lived in various locations before making Salisbury their home. They became active members of St Thomas's Church and were heavily involved in the local community. Mrs Kirkup continued her nursing career in local nursing homes and even enjoyed a brief part-time role at Tesco while waiting for Mr Kirkup to retire.

The couple have always shared a love of travel and adventure, owning both caravans and campervans and exploring many parts of the country together. Mrs Kirkup also developed a passion for sequence dancing, attending clubs in Wilton, Amesbury and Warminster.
One of her lifelong dreams came true on her 89th birthday when she went ice skating, having been inspired as a young girl by Olympic figure skater Sonja Henie.
Dogs have always been a cherished part of their family life, and they are currently devoted to their dog, Milo.
Although life has slowed down a little in recent years, their love for each other remains as strong as ever. They are every bit as devoted today as they were when they first met more than seven decades ago.
Caremark has been supporting Mr and Mrs Kirkup over the past year, helping them remain together in the home they love. During that time they have become a much-loved part of the Caremark family and are adored by all of the care assistants.
As they prepare to celebrate their extraordinary milestone, their story stands as a beautiful example of enduring love, commitment, and the importance of remaining connected to the community and to those we care about most.
