Sections of Wyndham Road in the city will be closed in phases for almost two months to allow gas works to take place.
Wiltshire Council announced it will temporarily shut sections of the road from March 9 until May 1 so that SGN can carry out essential gas main upgrades.
It is understood that the closures will be carried out in three phases.
The first phase affects Wyndham Road from the junction with Queens Road in an easterly direction. Phase two will see the road closed westbound from Queens Road to Swaynes Close. The third phase will cover the stretch from Swaynes Close to Kings Road.
Diversions will be signposted for each phase.
The council said access for residents and businesses will be maintained 'where possible'.
The temporary traffic regulation order will come into operation on Monday 9th March and is expected to remain in place until the beginning of May, although the roadworks have permission to be carried out for up to 19 months.
