Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a police vehicle was rammed by a recovery pickup truck in Downton High Street at 12.35 am on Friday morning (18th April).
The bright yellow vehicle had two orange flashing lights, two windows on the rear of the main cabin, yellow and red reflective stripes on the rear of the truck and a large T-shaped tow bar.
It came to the attention of patrolling officers as they suspected that the two male passengers were attempting to steal a vehicle.
When the officers approached the truck, the driver reversed at speed into their vehicle before driving off. This impact left the police vehicle in an unusable condition.
The truck then made off eastbound in the direction of Redlynch.
A police statement said, "Before the collision, the truck pulled over to let a black car travelling in the opposite direction pass at 12.33 am. The driver of this vehicle could be a key part of our investigation into identifying the males in the truck.
"If you were travelling along Downton High Street in the early hours of Friday morning, or if you have doorbell/dashcam footage in the area, please contact 101 quoting crime reference number 54250047263."
