16 companies across Wiltshire have been recognised by Wiltshire Council for their outstanding support in offering workplace opportunities to young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Since its launch a year ago, the Wiltshire SEND Employer Champions - Local Offer Scheme has welcomed a growing network of companies committed to helping create inclusive job opportunities for young people with SEND.
Companies can sign up for bronze, silver or gold levels, participate in a number of activities and receive accreditation accordingly.
Speaking at the event, Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “One year in, and the response to the Wiltshire SEND Employer Champion Scheme has been truly amazing.
I would like to pay credit to the team, not just for this evening but also for the support offered to customers.
These are not just jobs but journeys. They don’t just bring skills, they bring authenticity and enthusiasm.
When employers focus on what they can rather than can’t do, magic happens.
We don’t just talk about potential, we unleash it.”
At a special event, businesses were presented with awards and recognised for their commitment to the scheme.
Employer Sodexo said: “We’re immensely proud of both of the people working with us. Harry was awarded Steward of the Year and Jamie has also received recognition for his work. They both fly the flag for Sodexo and we’re proud to have them as part of the team.”
Sophie from McDonald, said: “Customers love his presence, the minute Tim walks in, he has a massive smile on his face, he’s a big character and we just had to have him.”
