Wiltshire Council’s leisure centres have been awarded ukactive’s “Active Standard”, a nationally recognised quality mark that highlights excellence in safety, inclusivity and operational standards across the physical activity sector.
The Active Standard, developed by ukactive in partnership with organisations including Sport England and EuropeActive, ensures that operators meet essential requirements in areas such as health and safety compliance, professional standards, safeguarding and data protection.
Facilities undergo a robust independent assessment reviewing risk management, staff training, safeguarding arrangements and daytoday operational processes.
Once awarded, the accreditation is valid for three years.
Wiltshire’s success places its centres among leading leisure providers nationally, reflecting the council’s commitment to offering high quality, safe and inclusive environments where communities can enjoy physical activity and support their health and wellbeing.
By achieving this accreditation, Wiltshire Council’s leisure centres have demonstrated that they:
- Provide consistently safe and well‑managed facilities, supported by strong compliance, clear safety protocols and rigorous risk‑management processes
- Meet nationally recognised professional standards, underpinned by sector‑wide expertise developed with partners such as CIMSPA
- Create inclusive, welcoming environments, ensuring people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities feel confident, supported and able to participate
- Commit to ongoing improvement, continually reviewing the way services are delivered to maintain high standards and adapt to future customer and community needs.
Cllr Mel Jacob, Cabinet Member for Communities, Engagement and Corporate Services, said: “Achieving the ukactive Active Standard across all of our leisure centres is a fantastic milestone, and it reflects the incredibly high standards of safety, professionalism and care that our teams deliver every day.
“This accreditation offers reassurance to our residents that our centres provide safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces for everyone in Wiltshire. I want to thank all the staff involved for their hard work and dedication in achieving this recognition - it simply wouldn’t have been possible without them.
“As we continue to invest in our leisure offer, including the construction of the new state-of-the-art Trowbridge leisure centre, we remain committed to providing high-quality facilities that support healthier, more active communities for years to come.”
