Wiltshire Council has announced that they are investing £600,000 into Culver Street car park in Salisbury to carry out repairs to the facility.
The council has secured contractor Logic Contract Services to carry out the repairs with work due to start on the 18th June 2022 and expected to last for 16 weeks.
According to the council, there will be some initial enabling works taking place this week (week beginning on the 13th of June), which require scaffolding in preparation for the main works.
The work will see repairs to the structure of the facility, including to the columns, floors and brickwork, plus a full replacement of the flooring and ramps on all levels of the car park, which should help reduce the noise for nearby residents.
Barriers throughout the facility are also set to be either strengthened or replaced to make the car park more secure.
Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Operational Assets, said, "These repair works have been planned for quite some time and I’m pleased that they are now progressing.
“These types of facilities are used day in and day out by residents and it is important that we ensure they are as safe and fit-for-purpose for those who use them.
“There will be some disruption to users of the car park while these works are carried out but we’ll do our very best to keep these to a minimum.”
The car park will remain open for the duration of the works, but there may be some limited access to some of the floors during the building programme.
There will also be some periodic closure of footpaths around the site but this will be kept to a minimum and alternative routes will be clearly signposted.
