Wilton Library closed for essential repairs

Wilton Library has temporarily closed as it requires some essential repair work.

The building, which has been closed since 6 April, currently has some damage to the ceiling and in order to mitigate any safety risks to the public the decision has been made to close until the repairs have been made.

Further assessments will be carried out on-site and that will help inform a clear timetable for the work being carried out and eventual reopening.

All books currently out on loan from Wilton Library will have their return date extended until the library opens, but people are also able to return books at any Wiltshire library should they wish to.

Wiltshire Council is investigating the potential of providing an alternative service.

No final decisions have been made yet, but people will be kept up to date via the libraries webpage and social media feeds.

In the meantime, the nearest library to Wilton is Salisbury and Wiltshire Council library cards are valid there and at any of its libraries throughout the county.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: “We are very sorry that Wilton community’s library is currently closed. This decision was necessary to ensure people’s safety while we plan and carry out these repairs. We are focussed reopening the library as soon as possible and shall have a clear timetable to achieve this very soon.

“In the meantime, we have a range of digital services that people can use, and of course, anyone from Wilton will be very warmly welcomed at any of our other libraries should they wish to pay them a visit. Thank you to everyone for their patience.”
