Tisbury man banned from driving for three years

A Tisbury man who refused to provide a breath sample after being suspected of drink driving has been banned from the roads for three years.

On April 1st last year, Michael Salter, 32, of Wyndhams Place, Tisbury, was spotted by an unmarked Roads Policing officer in Tisbury driving a white van erratically, spinning the wheels and nearly colliding with a wall.

He also drove at around 36mph in a 20mph zone.

Salter was followed to Wyndhams Place, where he was spoken to at his vehicle.

Officers smelt a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, however Salter refused to provide a breath sample.

He was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a sample of breath and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

At a hearing on Wednesday (1st May), Salter was disqualified from driving for 36 months and required to pay a fine of £120 and costs of £620.

Roads Policing Officer Luke Hobbs said: “We appreciate the concern in Tisbury around drink drivers and we are fully committed to cracking down on people who choose to get behind the wheel of a vehicle when they’ve been drinking.

“There can never be an excuse for it.

“Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences: these are the five offences which are the most likely to lead to death or serious injury collisions on our roads.

“Please help us keep Wiltshire’s roads safe and if you have been drinking then find another way to travel.”
