The incident happened at approximately 7.15pm when a blue Volkswagen Golf was stolen from outside an address on Parsonage Green, Salisbury.
Shortly after this, it is believed the stolen vehicle was involved in a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Fisherton Street, where it hit a silver Peugeot.
The car was found abandoned at around 8.30pm, missing the left tyre, in the car park of Waitrose on Churchill Way.
PC James Barrett, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “The car, which was stolen earlier the same night, was found with significant damage.
“We are concerned that it may have been involved in other incidents that we are currently unaware of.
“If you witnessed the car being stolen or being driven erratically in the area at the time mentioned, please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference number 54210105044.
“We’d particularly like to speak to anyone who has dash cam footage of the car that could help us identify the driver".
