Magna Learning Partnership and Sarum Academy have made the 'very difficult' decision to close the 6th form at the Bemerton Heath based academy.
In a letter sent to parents and careers, date Monday, 17th March, Ian Tucker, Magna Learning Partnership (MLP) CEO, said that they would be applying to the Department for Education to change the age range of the academy from 11-18 to 11-16, effective from September 2026.
The decision follows a consultation and financial and operational challenges have made it increasingly difficult to sustain the Sixth Form as a viable option that would meet the needs of all learners.
The letter also stated that MLP and Sarum Academy are fully committed to supporting every student and their families through the transition.
The full letter said:
"On behalf of Magna Learning Partnership, I am writing to inform you of an important decision regarding Sarum Academy’s Sixth Form. After the extensive consultation and careful consideration, we will be applying to the Department for Education to change the Academy’s age range from 11–18 to 11–16, effective from September 2026.
"This has been a very difficult decision and we understand that it will be met with disappointment. Sarum Academy’s Sixth Form has provided invaluable opportunities for students over the years and we are incredibly proud of their achievements. However, despite our best efforts, financial and operational challenges have made it increasingly difficult to sustain a viable Sixth Form that meets the needs of all learners.
"We are fully committed to supporting every student and their families through this transition. We will work closely with alternative Post-16 providers to ensure that students have access to high-quality education, careers guidance and additional support. Our priority remains the well-being and success of every student at Sarum Academy. While this change is challenging, we will continue to provide the best possible education and future opportunities for all our students. We appreciate your support and will keep you updated throughout this process.
"If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Thank you for your continued support."
