Salisbury couldn't come from two goals down and lost at home to Enfield Town in the Vanarama National League South.
Goals either side of halftime for the visitors were enough for Enfield, as Salisbury rallied late through a Josh Hedges goal, but they couldn't find a leveller.
The Whites started the game on top, dominating the ball and cutting through defensive lines from the get-go.
Three minutes in, Josh Hedges’s run in behind the Town backline was spotted. The forward fired his shot marginally over the bar.
In the 31st minute, Stallard’s mishit cross caused Byrne to scramble back to his goal, with the ball heading dangerously towards the top corner. Eventually, the ball struck the top side of the bar and bounced away to safety.
Right on the stroke of halftime, the visitors took the lead. Henry Hawkins directed his header into the bottom corner after a corner wasn’t cleared properly, and the Towners went into halftime with the lead.
Enfield’s lead was doubled in the 50th minute through Charlie Stallard, the ball fell to the goal scorer who was waiting at the far-post. Stannard’s strike crept past Byrne in the Whites’ net, who failed to keep hold of what looked like a routine stop.
In the 83rd minute, Salisbury’s talisman, Josh Hedges, halved the deficit. The forward controlled a long ball in the Enfield Town box and poked the ball home past Wright.
The goal inspired the hosts, as Salisbury generated a lengthy spell of pressure in the final stages.
The North London-based side managed to maintain discipline and restrict the Whites to no further concrete chances to secure the three points.
Up next for Salisbury is a trip to Devon to face Torquay United on Tuesday evening - kick-off at 7:45pm - with full match commentary on Salisbury Radio Sport with Ian Pearson and Andy Munns.
