A British tourist, who lived in Salisbury, has died following an alleged violent altercation in Bangkok, Thailand, after being denied entry to a karaoke bar.
Nick Weir, 28, reportedly attempted to enter the 91karaoke bar around 2 a.m. local time on Monday but was refused service and asked to leave. Witnesses say Weir, who had been acting erratically, persisted in trying to gain entry before being escorted out.
CCTV footage captured him running before stopping to speak with the men and attempting to get onto their bike. A struggle followed, during which he was thrown to the ground.
Police reports indicate the security staff called emergency services after Weir was knocked unconscious, but paramedics were unable to revive him, pronouncing him dead at the scene, approximately 650 feet from the bar. Authorities have detained two Thai men as part of their investigation into the incident.
Lieutenant Colonel Apichai Hwanjit, Deputy Superintendent of Bang Po police station, confirmed that Weir had been turned away from the venue before being pursued.
"CCTV footage shows a confrontation where the foreigner was restrained, leading to a struggle," Hwanjit stated. "During this, he fell, and we are waiting for forensic results to determine if the fall was the cause of death."
The investigation remains ongoing as police examine CCTV footage and forensic evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal encounter.
