Salisbury all Set for All the Fun of the Charter Fair

Salisbury Charter Fair will return this October, bringing rides, entertainment, food and traditional fairground fun to the city centre for visitors of all ages.

The fair will be open from Sunday 18 October to Wednesday 21 October, kicking off at 2pm on Sunday with the traditional civic parade through Salisbury Market Place. Visitors will be able to enjoy the festivities from 2pm to 9pm on Sunday, and 11am to 10pm Monday to Wednesday.

Expect a mix of much-loved fairground classics and more thrilling attractions throughout the four-day event. Fairground favourites including the carousel, dodgems and waltzer will sit alongside high-energy rides such as Super Star and Star Flyer, keeping both families and thrill-seekers entertained.

There will be plenty more to discover, with fairground games such as hook-a-duck and hoopla, a mini arcade, and a tempting selection of sweet treats and street food on offer.

Please note that, due to the fair, Salisbury Charter Market will not take place on Tuesday 20 October.

The fair has been part of Salisbury’s story for almost 800 years. Its origins can be traced back to 1227, when King Henry III granted a charter to the Bishop of Salisbury to hold a fair on the third Monday in October. Centuries later, the event continues to bring people into the city and remains a treasured annual tradition.

With 2027 marking 800 years since that historic charter, next year promises to be a landmark year for Salisbury. A number of celebrations have already been announced as part of the city-wide 800th anniversary programme, with further information available on the Salisbury City Council website and Experience Salisbury website.
