The annual Christmas Tree Collection, which took place from 9th to 11th January, saw an outstanding upturn in tree registrations.
This year, almost 2,000 trees were collected – donations that support Salisbury Hospice Charity.
The collection, made possible by a team of over 70 amazing volunteers – including those from local businesses - was a resounding success. Through donations and sponsorship from Sampson Coward, the event raised over £40,000, a record for this event in Salisbury.
This significant contribution will support the invaluable services provided by Salisbury Hospice, which offers compassionate care and support to patients and their families in the local community.
Christmas Trees were collected from as far away as Stockbridge, Whiteparish, and Shaftesbury, as well as Salisbury and the surrounding villages, with all money raised coming directly from donations. The trees are recycled through chipping on local farms or by being fed to alpacas at Barefoot Barns, a bespoke wellbeing service for children and adults with additional needs.
Salisbury Hospice Charity extends heartfelt thanks to the following people for their support of this event: Salisbury and South Wilts Scouts, Walsh Tree Services, Rose Farm Hurdcott, Stump Grinders, and Newbourne Composting. Linden Van Hire, Tesco Extra Salisbury, Nationwide Building Society, Breeze Environmental, Milestone Infrastructure, Virtu Property, ASG Landscaping, Doccombe Global Logistics, Wessex Timber Windows, Boatwrights Estate Agents, Clearite, Neil Smith Builders, Neil Smith Illustration and Donald and Sarah Capewell.
Alex Brown, Community fundraiser for Salisbury Hospice Charity, added, “I am delighted to announce the incredible total raised and wish to express our huge gratitude to everyone who donated, and to the many volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend. Without our community and these wonderful volunteers, this event simply would not happen.”
