Police are warning people that being under the influence of alcohol is never an excuse for sexually assaulting someone.
A man from south-east Wiltshire was last week given a community order and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman in Salisbury by touching her bottom without her consent.
The offence took place on 12 December 2025 inside a takeaway in Salisbury following a Christmas night out.
Local Crime Investigator Lydia Jackson said: "This case is a reminder that being under the influence of alcohol is never an excuse for criminal behaviour.
"This man sexually assaulted a woman by touching her without her consent, causing her distress. Thanks to the victim's support and CCTV evidence, he was brought before the courts and held accountable for his actions.
"Everyone has the right to feel safe on a night out. Unwanted sexual touching is never acceptable and will not be tolerated.
"What may seem like a momentary action can have a lasting impact on a victim. We will always take reports of sexual offences seriously and pursue those responsible."
