People in the Square, a new event by Salisbury Transition City, the organisers of People in the Park and other community groups, that aims to lift spirits with fantastic entertainment, nature talks and advice to cut energy and food bills taking place on Easter Bank Holiday Monday (April 6th) in the heart of the city.
The event brings together experts, nature enthusiasts, and families to celebrate the environment and to explore sustainable living in a fun but informative way.
Expect a full day of engaging talks, live music from seven local artists, film and theatrical performances starting at 11 am, when Salisbury Mayor, Councillor John Wells, opens the event in the Market Square.
First up is an opportunity to hear about new energy support schemes to help keep the house warm with a case study about solar power lead by the Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate and Waste at Wiltshire Council, Councillor Paul Sample JP who said: “This event is one of the high points of the year for anyone interested in delivering practical solutions to climate change in South Wiltshire. The plans for the event are very exciting, and I hope there will be great weather and a big turnout.”
After this, you can join in the food quiz at 12 noon and win lunch at one of the hospitality venues located in the Market Square or browse the sustainable arts and crafts and wellbeing stalls by the stage.
Talks include saving our swifts, and beekeeping, and there will be an update on the Salisbury Plain Bustards. There is also a Q&A on how to make fashion sustainable, and Starcast will provide a live theatrical performance.
Getting the facts about climate change and making small changes to our lives is important. So, hear directly from local children as to how their schools are becoming more sustainable. Music lovers will enjoy the variety of performers throughout the day, musicians including Ribble, Echobirds, Diamond Froggs, The Salamanders and more.
People in the Square is about putting community first and bringing people together to find solutions in these challenging times. The event is free and open to all ages, whether passionate about wildlife conservation and sustainability or just wanting to experience a fun day out.
