After the success of its open day in recent years, Salisbury fire station is throwing open its doors to the local community again this weekend.
Everyone is welcome to visit the fire station on Ashley Road between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday (23rd August).
Appliances from across Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service will be on display, together with a specialist airport vehicle from nearby Boscombe Down airfield. There will also be a range of demonstrations, including hot oil fires, using the aerial ladder platform, technical rescue, and a road traffic collision.
Other activities will include a CPR training area, where people can ‘have a go’ at vital lifesaving skills; a chance to test your throwing ability at the throwline target practice; and a fire engine driving simulation.
Children can enjoy the opportunity to dress up as a firefighter and throw sponges at targets, and a range of toys and gifts will be on sale from the Fire Service Store, which raises money for the Fire Fighters Charity. Blaze Bear may also make an appearance…
As well as everything to do with the fire and rescue service, there will be stalls for Wessex Blood Bikes, Wiltshire Police, South Western Ambulance Service, NHS Blood Service and many more!
Firefighter Sam Edwards said, “We’re building on the success of the last three years, and the event should be bigger and better than ever! There’s no charge for admission or for the activities, and any money raised through the shop and refreshments will benefit the Fire Fighters Charity.
"We have had to rethink some elements of the day, as we’re mindful of the hosepipe bans in other parts of the region, but we’re confident there is still lots to see and do! We just want people to come along, meet their local firefighters, and hopefully learn about staying safe while at home or out and about.”
Please note that there is no parking available at the fire station, so visitors are encouraged to use public transport or walk in.
