Officers assaulted during arrest in Salisbury

Two police officers were assaulted during the arrest of three people in connection with a robbery in Salisbury in the early hours of Saturday morning (20th November 2021).

Officers were called at approximately 10.20pm on Saturday night to a report of a disorder at The Ox Row Inn.

During the disorder, a man in his 30s was assaulted, sustaining injuries to his face and back.

When officers arrived, the group dispersed, however, a short time later, the same victim reported being assaulted by the same group in Brown Street and having his phone stolen.

Enquiries were carried out and at 2am on Saturday morning, and officers arrested three men. During the arrest, a police officer was punched and kicked to the face, while a special constable was also assaulted causing a shoulder injury.

Fortunately, they did not require hospital treatment.

The arrest details are as follows:

A 22-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of robbery
A 36-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of class B and C drugs
A 30-year-old man from Salisbury was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assaulting an emergency worker x 2.

All three remain in custody at Melksham for further questioning.

Duty Superintendent Ben Mant commented, “Assaults on police officers who are simply carrying out their duties to keep our communities safe are completely unacceptable. Violence of this nature will not be tolerated and I am pleased we now have three individuals in custody arrested in connection with this incident.”
