An application has been made to close part of the A360 north of Salisbury for up to four months.
National Highways have applied for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) to 'support essential work' on the A360.
The plan is to close the road between Longbarrow Roundabout and The Avenue junctions, with work beginning in April and ending in July.
The work is to be carried out by SSEN (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks).
The work is part of the preparations for the A303 Stonehenge Tunnel project, upgrading high voltage power to the area.
The closure of the five-mile stretch of road will cause extra traffic to use other routes out of the city, including the A345 and the A36.
