At its meeting on 9th December, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet will consider whether to approve a contract for a government-funded project to improve bus shelters and bus stop infrastructure throughout the county.

The decision to award the contract would then be delegated to the Director of Highways and Transport.

If approved, the award of contract, which would be funded through the Government’s Local Authority Bus Grant, would include the design, supply, installation, and maintenance of bus shelters and bus stop infrastructure across the county.

Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “Buses play a vital role in connecting our communities, and we know how important it is to provide high-quality bus shelters that meet the needs of local people.

“If Cabinet agrees to proceed with this award, it will mark an important step towards improving Wiltshire’s public transport infrastructure, in line with our Bus Service Improvement Plan.

“Many of our bus shelters need repair or replacement, and this contract will ensure we can deliver high-quality, accessible facilities that encourage more people to use public transport.”

If approved, the contract would run for five years, from February 2026 to February 2031, with an option to extend for up to five years. The contract cost will be funded by current and future Government grant allocations.

The programme includes bus shelters, along with other related infrastructure, such as bus stop poles and flags, timetable cases and improvements to bus stop accessibility.
