Jubilee Beacon to be lit at Old Sarum

Salisbury City Council has announced they will light a Jubilee Beacon on Thursday 2nd June at Old Sarum to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and the start of the four-day weekend.

This will be one of thousands of Beacons being lit to celebrate the Queen's historic milestone with communities and people throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth also taking part.

Located at Old Sarum, the Beacon will be lit as part of an anchor chain by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) at 9.30pm.

All 43 RICS Beacons throughout the country will be the first to be lit in the UK as they have lit a chain of Beacons since the Silver Jubilee in 1977, before it became the amazing community initiative it is now. All other Beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man will be lit at 9.45pm.

Salisbury City Council would like to invite 70 members of the public to attend the lighting of the Beacon. To receive an invitation, residents of Salisbury are being asked to complete an application form which will then go into a ballot.

Salisbury City Council will contact applicants to confirm if their application has been successful by Friday 27 May.

The Mayor of Salisbury, Councillors and Deputy Lieutenant Dr Phil Harding will also be in attendance.
