Highly acclaimed Tenor to perform at Cathedral Candlelight Concerts

A Beautiful and atmospheric Song Recital will take place at Salisbury Cathedral this January as part of Candlelight Concert Series

Highly acclaimed British tenor Ruairi Bowen is set to perform the first of four Candlelight Concerts in the North Transept of Salisbury Cathedral on Friday 17th January.

Ruairi will be performing a selection of music by British composers, all on the theme of winter, including Britten’s poignant Winter Words, which explores the passage of time using vivid imagery of the natural world as well as the human experience.

Ruairi is an established interpreter of Baroque music in the UK and abroad, collaborating with some of the leading conductors in the field including Emmanuelle Haïm, Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Stephen Layton.

Accompanying Ruairi will be multiple prize-winning and critically acclaimed conductor and song accompanist William Vann, renowned for his revival performances and recordings of lost and lesser-known works of vocal and choral music by British composers.

William has collaborated across the world with a vast array of singers and instrumentalists, among them the Academy of Ancient Music, Britten Sinfonia, London Mozart Players and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Thomas Allen CBE, Dame Sarah Connolly, James Gilchrist, Ann Murray DBE, Matthew Rose and Roderick Williams to name just a few.

The Candlelight Concert takes place at 8pm on Friday 17th January in Salisbury Cathedral – doors open at 7.30pm. Other concerts in the series include Purcell by Candlelight on February 14th, Piano by Candlelight on 14th March, and Wind Quintet by Candlelight on 2 May.
