Wiltshire Police have set up their first Independent Advisory Group to tackle violence against women and girls.
The group is made up of people from across Wiltshire and Swindon who have an interest in Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and can act as a critical friend to the Force.
Members will have the opportunity to observe and have an input into how various policing practices are conducted in Wiltshire.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucy Thorne said: "Over the past six months we have worked closely with some fantastic people in our community who are dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.
"I am thrilled that we have created a group of passionate individuals from a range of backgrounds who will now act as advisors around how we improve our service. Our group is made up of not only Wiltshire and Swindon residents but people who also have a professional interest in how we are tackling VAWG from the judiciary, local businesses, local activists and DA (domestic abuse) support groups who will give honest views around how we police VAWG.
"This will not only help in how we detect crimes but ways to provide a better service to victims and help with informing new ideas and initiatives around how we can make women and girls safer and feel safer in our county."
Lady Lansdowne, The Marchioness of Lansdowne, is the Chair of the new Independent Advisory Group. She said: "Having become increasingly concerned at the growth of violence against women and girls in our society, and with an extraordinary group of professionals, law makers, charity heads and lay people, all working in this sector, I am proud that the EVAWG (Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Wiltshire) coalition is now working with Wiltshire Police and will form their Independent Advisory Group on all VAWG matters.
"I am honoured to chair this group and will do all in my power to support the work of the police and act as independent advisors. Eradication of all forms of violence and abuse against women and girls must be a top priority and I am determined to help in any way I can."
