Drink driver banned from the roads

A man has been banned from the roads after being caught drink driving.

Jose Bruno Sousa, 42, of Norman Drive, Old Sarum, was observed by PC Pallas and PC Hammond on April 15th driving straight through a stop sign on St Edmunds Church Street.

The officers went to go and speak to Sousa about the manner of his driving and could smell alcohol on him.

Sousa was breathalysed and blew over the limit. He was then taken to Amesbury Police Station, where he provided an evidential reading of 42 microgrammes – the legal limit being 35.

He initially pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea.

At a hearing last Thursday (24th August), Sousa was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £415, and required to pay court costs of £450 and a victim surcharge of £166. PC Pallas said: “Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences. “Every year, many people are killed by drink drivers, and it is good to see that the courts have taken another drink driver off the roads. “It is only a matter of time before you get caught. “If you know you are going out for the night, walk, take a taxi or get a lift. Do not risk your life or the life of others.”
