Wiltshire Council is asking residents to support its road resurfacing and maintenance programme by ensuring their vehicles are not causing an obstruction during the work.
When resurfacing or road maintenance is programmed, parked cars can obstruct the work and cause delays and disruptions, resulting in wasted resources, increased costs, and setbacks to the forward programme.
Before any resurfacing or large road maintenance project, the council informs the local community with letter drops to affected residents and local signage, along with no parking cones and other measures to warn residents of the work.
However, some people are still leaving parked cars in the way. When this happens, crews must either work around the obstruction, which can compromise the quality of the work, or abandon the site entirely and reschedule, affecting other planned works across the county.
Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The vast majority of people are really helpful when our teams are resurfacing and maintaining roads, and they ensure their vehicles are moved so that we can complete the work professionally and without any issues.
“I’d like to thank these residents and urge everyone to keep an eye out for advance notices and signage in their area.
“However, despite our letters, signage and other warnings of the upcoming work, some people still leave their vehicles to obstruct our teams, and we’re asking those people to please pay attention to the signage and move their vehicles so that we can improve Wiltshire’s roads.
“We understand that moving vehicles can be inconvenient, but we believe that it’s worth it to improve our road network; besides, the impact of not doing so is significant.”
