Approximately 1,000 members of the community flocked to Salisbury District Hospital’s Open Day on Saturday to immerse themselves in what life at the hospital is all about.
Visitors discovered more about the workings of the hospital as many departments provided a variety of demonstrations, activities and displays.
The day offered something for all ages, including the popular ‘toy hospital’, hi-tech lifelike simulation manikins and the ‘Bones Man’. Staff from emergency services such as fire and police departments came along to let children climb into their vehicles.
Attendees were able to tour several parts of the hospital site, including Pathology, Radiology and the new Imber Ward, and they were treated to a tasting menu courtesy of the hospital’s catering team.
In addition, information about NHS careers was available. There was also live music and free swim sessions for the whole family throughout the day.
Interim Chief Executive Lisa Thomas said: “We are so delighted that so many people from our community visited us and enjoyed a great day of fun and entertainment for the whole family with the wide range of activities going on all around our hospital. Our staff were very excited for the opportunity to show visitors what they do to provide quality care for our patients in creative and fun ways, which resulted in big smiles all around. There truly was something for everyone. And we had sunshine this year, which is always a plus!”
