A Salisbury woman has been issued with a community order after assaulting a security guard and shoplifting.
On the 8th of January this year, Karen Baird, 36, of Carmelite Way, Salisbury, assaulted a security guard at Primark and shoplifted items to the value of £75.
She was subsequently arrested and in a hearing at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on May 29th, she pleaded guilty.
She was sentenced to an 18-month community order. As part of this, she is required to attend 12 sessions of mental health treatment and six months of alcohol treatment with charity Turning Point, and complete up to 15 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days.
She is also required to pay £200 in compensation.
PC 71059 King, based in Salisbury, said: “Assaulting a security guard is a serious offence and will not be tolerated.
“Shoplifting also has a significant impact on local businesses and customers alike, resulting in increased expenses for businesses and then higher prices for consumers.
“We will continue to work closely with local stores to identify and apprehend any offenders.”
