Salisbury City Council have announced the launch of the city's first Mela, a celebration of culture, food and festivities.
Melas serve as a platform for different communities to unite, celebrate their shared diversity, and participate in cultural activities.
Mela is a Sanskrit term, meaning "to meet" or "a fair". It refers to a large gathering of people, often a festival or fair, where diverse communities come together to celebrate and share their cultures.
The Salisbury Mela will celebrate all cultures and offer an opportunity to embrace Salisbury’s diversity. It will take place on Sunday, July 13th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Salisbury Market Place.
The City Council invites us to enjoy cultural performances, delicious food, arts and crafts, and entertainment for all ages.
They are also looking for local groups and organisations to participate in the event and share their culture. This could involve anything from performances or sharing traditions to having a stand selling authentic clothing or food.
