Stories of determination, courage and achievement took centre stage at Wiltshire Council's annual Star Awards event on Thursday 22 October.
Children in care and care-experienced young people from across the county were recognised for their outstanding achievements at the Civic Centre in Trowbridge.
The awards brought together young people, carers, families, social workers, personal advisers, councillors and partners for an evening celebrating success and the many ways young people are thriving in education, employment, sport, the arts and their local communities.
During the evening, young people were recognised for overcoming challenges, achieving educational milestones, developing greater independence, supporting their peers, volunteering and pursuing their ambitions. Young people also took to the stage to perform, showcasing their skills and helping make the event a memorable occasion for everyone attending.
Those who know them best, including family, foster carers, teachers, social workers, personal advisers and Virtual School staff, nominated the young people, with awards presented across three categories in three age groups: primary, secondary and Post 16.
- Smashed It! - recognising those who have overcome significant challenges or achieved something remarkable
- Future Pioneers! - celebrating success in education, employment, sport, arts and personal development
- Taking Part! - honouring young people who have made a positive difference to others through volunteering, leadership or community involvement
Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Education and Skills, said: "The Star Awards are a reminder of just how much talent, determination and potential exists among Wiltshire's children in care and care-experienced young people.
"We heard about young people who have overcome challenges, achieved their goals, supported others and made a positive contribution to their communities. Every nominee and winner should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. It was a privilege to celebrate alongside them and recognise their success.
"While the spotlight rightly belongs to our young people, I'd also like to thank the foster carers, families, staff and professionals who support them every day. Behind every achievement is someone who has encouraged, guided and believed in them.
"We're also grateful to Connor Construction (South West) Ltd for sponsoring this year's event and helping us give these young people the recognition they deserve."
Connor Construction (South West) Ltd generously sponsored this year's awards, with representatives attending the event and helping present trophies and certificates to the young people.
Ian Webb, Director at Connor Construction (South West) Ltd, said: "We are proud to have supported this year's Star Awards and to help recognise the remarkable achievements of these young people.
"Listening to their stories on the night was truly inspiring and demonstrated the resilience, determination and positivity shown by so many of Wiltshire's young people. It was a privilege to be part of such a special celebration."
