David Owen Norris is set to return to Salisbury Cathedral in the new year for a piano concert full of breathtaking music.
The concert will take place on Friday 9 January, and include music by Gibbons, Parry, Vaughan Williams & Billy Mayerl, along with his own transcription of The Scene of the Cold Genius from Purcell’s King Arthur, and one of the first performances of the newly restored version of Elgar’s mighty Concerto Allegro by Norris, which was published only after his death, in a sadly truncated version.
Norris has been described as ‘Quite possibly the most interesting pianist in the world’, having worked around the world as a pianist, composer, and broadcaster, gaining praise for his series Chord of the Week as part of BBC 2 Television’s PromsExtra.
The concert is the first in a line-up of intimate chamber concerts that will take place in the new year, including a violin and piano concert centred around the Romantic period from David Halls and Daphne Moody, a moving performance of Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, and a beautifully English concert of oboe and piano music from Rosalie and Alistair Watson.
Tickets for David Owen Norris Piano by Candlelight are on sale now. Further information and ticketing details can be found at www.salisburycathedral.org.uk
